Biography

Born in Brussels, Belgium, in 1922, Rene Van Den Neste was a prominent twentieth-century surrealist whose vivid imagination and mastery of form left a lasting mark on the international art world. A prodigy from a young age, his artistic journey was transformed in 1948 when he met the legendary surrealist master René Magritte, quickly becoming a fixture in Magritte’s inner circle of visionary creators.

Throughout his celebrated career, which included serving as the Director of the Molenbeek Academy of Drawing and Decorative Arts, Van Den Neste was renowned for his rich, warm color palettes, dreamlike landscapes, and deeply mystical themes.
