Jackson Whiles, b. 1975 — LONDON, ENGLAND
About the artist
A language of muted colour and patient surface.
Jackson Whiles was born in Hamburg in 1979 and studied painting at the Hochschule für bildende Künste before settling in London in 2009. The light of his adopted city — spacious, atmospheric, never quite direct — runs through everything he makes.
Working slowly in oil, plaster and graphite, he builds each canvas in thin layers over weeks, sanding back and re-washing until the surface holds its own history. His paintings sit between landscape and abstraction: horizons remembered rather than observed, rooms felt rather than seen.
His work is held in private collections across the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark and the United Kingdom, and she exhibits regularly in London and northern Europe.
